A major crypto PAC, Fairshake, backed by Coinbase, Ripple Labs, and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, spent over $10 million on ads opposing Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton in her Democratic primary race for Senate, who is likely to be sworn into office next year. However, another candidate opposed by Fairshake also won his primary to become the Democratic nominee for Illinois's 7th Congressional District. The results demonstrate the limits of investing heavily into politics to advance an industry's agenda. An AI industry PAC, Leading the Future, supported Democrats Rep. Nikki Budzinski and Melissa Bean in their respective primaries in deep-blue congressional districts, but also supported Jesse Jackson Jr. in Illinois's 2nd Congressional District, and Public First Action, which also supported Democrats in North Carolina's 4th District.
