Billionaires Michael and Susan Dell have donated $750 million to the University of Texas at Austin, promising to improve patient care through artificial intelligence and increase health care options for the booming state capital. The UT Dell Medical Center, set to open in 2030, is expected to be the crown jewel of a new 300-plus-acre advanced research campus. The donation makes the couple the first to give more than $1 billion for the university. The gift is among the largest ever in higher education philanthropy, following recent contributions by Phil Knight and Michael Bloomberg. The contribution comes at a time when public funding for higher education is declining amid declining public support.
