The Supreme Court has shown concern about potentially breaking the internet, with its decision in Cox Communications v. Sony, another case that could significantly impact the internet's function. The case, which won a billion-dollar verdict in the trial court, could have resulted in draconian crackdowns on any internet users allowing music pirates to infringe on copyright. However, the court found a procedural flaw in the case and sent it back to the lower courts without considering whether the two state laws are constitutional.
