Stephon Castle, the NBA's reigning Rookie of the Year, is now a soccer team owner and one of several minority owners of Major League Soccer's Next Pro team, CT United. The move came when Andre Swanston, one of only a handful of Black majority team owners in North American professional sports, approached Castle with an opportunity to join the ownership group for a new soccer franchise in Connecticut. Castle, who was raised in Georgia but had previously played for the San Antonio Spurs and committed to play at the University of Connecticut, where he won an NCAA championship in his lone collegiate season. Despite being only 21 and still on his rookie contract, Castle's ownership in CT United became official in December. The team's placement in Connecticut is no accident.
