The school uses AI-powered software to deliver lessons, which are delivered through "guides" to motivate students. The founder, MacKenzie Price, argues that AI-driven schooling allows for more personalized learning and reduces boredom, inefficiency, and lack of mastery. However, some education experts have expressed skepticism about the school's approach to teaching AI in classrooms, citing lack of outside research supporting the curriculum and potential for disruption to relationships at the heart of learning. The Alpha School opened in Austin, Texas in 2014 and has since expanded to nearly two dozen locations across the U.S.
