Yankees’ Ryan McMahon passes fielding test in first game at shortstop as plate woes continue

Ryan McMahon, a longtime third baseman for the Yankees, started his first game at shortstop in a major league game against the A's in a 3-2 loss, where he was tested for his glove and performed well in converting several chances. However, his offensive performance was overshadowed by his glovework. McMahon, who has adopted a significantly different batting stance this year, went 0-for-3 with a walk, two strikeouts and a double play. Despite this, McMahon has struggled with his plate performance and is 2-going-out 26th with zero extra-base hits in the first weeks of the season. Despite these struggles, manager Aaron Boone acknowledged McMahon's slow start and said he is working to turn it around.
