A viral video has emerged showing a heated exchange between two passengers on a subway train car. The apparent aggressor began verbally harassing the other passenger, threatening to cut his face open if he didn't comply with the demands. The video was filmed by the apparent aggressator, who also held his speaker up to the camera and pointed at the other man. Both men are black, but there is a pernicious strain of Black Lives Matter era thinking that prevents the enforcement of social norms. Xochitl Gomez, writing for The Atlantic in 2022, claimed that silence was an aesthetic aesthetic to be revered and that gentrification has replaced it with point-blank requests to make less noise.
