Texas winery files for Chapter 12 bankruptcy to settle debt

A five-year decline in sales in the wine industry has led to a bankruptcy filing for Texas winery Hilltop Winery at Paka Vineyards LLC, which owes about $3.1 million in debt and has over $19 million in assets. Major wine companies, including E. & J.. Gallo and Jackson Family Wines, have permanently closed their wineries this year. California-based Robledo Family Winery Inc., another California winery, filed for Chapter 11 protection on April 8. The Chapter 12 filing differs from a Chapter 11 filing, allowing debtor to file a repayment plan within 90 days of filing, but filing fees are significantly less.
