The Trifid Nebula (Messier 20), a star-forming region 5,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius, has been captured by Hubble's Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2. The image was shared for its 36th anniversary on April 20, 2026. It shows a growing jet of energy from a massive star that is ejected by a baby star ejected from the nebula. This image was taken after Hubble first used this exact scene 29 years ago, but 29 years later, Hubble took a second look at it with its more powerful Wide Field Camera 3. The new image also celebrates the launch of the newly operational Chile's Atacama Desert.
