Democratic State Rep. James Talarico of Texas has called for an open border during a primary debate with Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett, suggesting that the border should be like a "front porch" on someone's house. This idea was supported by President Donald Trump, who has since implemented several measures against illegal immigration and border security, including designating Mexican drug cartels, the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua and the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations. Despite this, Talaric won the Democratic primary with 53.1% of the vote.
