The annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner was marred by a shooting incident at the Washington Hilton ballroom. The gunman, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, was subdued by the Secret Service before he could reach the ballroom where the president, administration officials, members of Congress, and journalists were present. The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. ET, with President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump being seated on the stage. The president and his wife were evacuated to a secure room in the hotel. The suspected gunman was identified as a Los Angeles-based teacher and video game developer.
