Brazil’s competition watchdog inquires Apple over iPhone NFC restrictions

Apple has been asked by Brazil's competition watchdog, CADE, to respond to allegations of anticompetitive practices related to the iPhone's NFC. This comes after Apple accused Brazilian banks of seeking a "free ride" in a probe involving contactless payments on the iPhone. CADE has been investigating whether Apple is unfairly limiting third-party payment providers' access to its own services. Despite this, Apple maintains that there is nothing in Brazilian law that prevents it from charging a fee for its services and that it holds only 10% of the country's smartphone market.
