Illinois lawmakers are working to secure a bill that could keep the Chicago Bears in Illinois before the spring session ends May 31. The proposed bill would provide property tax incentives for the Bears to build a new stadium in Arlington Heights. The team has owned the former home of the Arlington racetrack for more than three years and is awaiting a deal allowing them to negotiate potentially lower property taxes. The Illinois Federation of Teachers is lobbying for language in the bill that ensures that big developments won't drain school funds.
