Merck CEO Rob Davis has stated that the company's future no longer depends on the blockbuster cancer therapy Keytruda, but a new pipeline is being built to offset the loss of its patent. Davis stated that Merck has transformed the company from being a Keytrda and vaccine company to a company with seven therapeutic areas and plans to launch over 20 new products over the next five years. He highlighted Winrevair, a treatment for a rare lung disease approved by the FDA in 2024, and Lipfendra, as well as Keytrududa QLEX, an injectable version of the company’s flagship cancer drug. Shares of Merck were flat on Tuesday after beating second-quarter estimates and raising its revenue outlook. However, the pharmaceutical company cut its profit guidance due to accounting charges tied to its acquisition of biotech company Terns Pharmaceuticals.
