In Cuba: To Be, or Not to Be

The uncertainty surrounding Cuba's future has intensified following the U.S. military operation that removed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The uncertainty has heightened since U.K. President Donald Trump signed an executive order threatening additional tariffs on any country that supplies Cuba with oil that Venezuela, its primary economic supporter, can no longer provide. The energy embargo, along with chronic fuel shortages and inability to generate reliable electricity, has driven life on the Caribbean island into a near-catatonic state. This has led to widespread blackouts, public transportation collapse, and a decrease in economic and commercial activities. The Cuban government has expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States, but questions arise about the future of Cuba.
