Heliot Ramos became the first repeat Opening Day Opening Day left fielder for the San Francisco Giants since Barry Bonds in 2006 and 2007, breaking a 19-year streak in which the team started a different left fielder in the season's first game. Manager Tony Vitello also contributed to the decision, which made Ramos the team's starting left fielder on Opening Day against the New York Yankees. Ramos had previously struggled in left field last year, recording minus-11 outs above average (OAA) out of left field, contributing to one of the Giants' worst defensive outfields in baseball. He believes the addition of Harrison Bader to center field will help the group overall, particularly Jung Hoo Lee.
