U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has expressed a vision for a positive agenda for trade with China, stating that the two countries want stability over the next year. This comes amid a yearslong tariff battle between the two nations. President Trump is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14 and 15 in Beijing. The Supreme Court recently overturned the president's tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, including those on Chinese imports, following a ruling that allowed for tariffs of up to 15 percent to address "large and serious" trade deficits for no more than 150 days. Greer also opened probes into tax policies and practices of numerous foreign partners, including China, the European Union, Japan, Mexico and India, under Section 301 of the Trade Act.
