Soudan Underground Mine State Park in northern Minnesota, nearly two years after flooding, will reopen to the public for public tours. The former iron mine was damaged in a June 2024 deluge and had to be closed for repairs. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been working to restore the mine, which has been operating since 1965. Public tours will begin on May 23. The mine was the first and deepest iron ore mine in the state and was donated to the state in the 1960s by U.S. Steel.
