The Lake Erie spring walleye fishing has surged across the Ohio shoreline, with limit catches and trophy fish reported from Cleveland to Toledo. Despite a cold front and northeast winds triggering large waves and a Lake Erie small craft advisory for Friday, light and variable winds are expected to settle the lake next week. The fishing has been particularly successful in the Western Basin, where spawning walleyse are staging around the reef complex off Port Clinton and Camp Perry. The 11th annual Barbie Rod Steelhead Derby will take place on Saturday at Cleveland Metroparks. Smallmouth bass are also being caught in the Sandusky and Maumee rivers, but low water conditions are hampering the runs.
