The New York Islanders have added two players worth approximately $13.5 million to their books, including Brayden Schenn and Ondrej Palat. However, general manager Mathieu Darche has stated that the team is not currently worried about creating a cap squeeze, particularly for the playoffs, when Alexander Romanov is expected to return from LTIR. The Islanders are not receiving full cap relief currently on either Romanov or Kyle Palmieri, as they haven't filed paperwork declaring them out for the year. The team is projected to have $15.21 million in available space over the summer, with Anders Lee, Carson Soucy, Tony DeAngelo and David Rittich set to be free agents. Darche's longer-term vision is to keep enough veterans in place to keep the team competitive while current prospects are finding their footing as NHLers.
