Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has called for a special session to change the state's Constitution to give his party an unfair election advantage. This follows a court ruling that blocked extreme, illegal partisan congressional maps in Maryland. Hogan, a national leader in the fight for non-partisan redistricting, has called Gerrymandering "wrong" no matter who does it. He has previously served as Maryland's governor during congressional redistricting and ceded power over the process to a non-profit commission. The commission produced fair congressional maps submitted to the legislature without modification. However, in 2021, Democrats in the General Assembly rejected the commission's fair map and made Maryland's already notorious districts even worse. The General Assembly was ordered to draw a new and fairer map, which Hogan signed into law.
