St. John's season ended in a disappointing loss to Duke in the season-ending Sweet 16, marking the team's best performance since 1999. The fifth-seeded Red Storm, who won the Big East regular season and conference tournament championships for the second consecutive year, lost 80-75 to top seed Duke. Despite this loss, St. John’s still achieved something special this season, including a national championship. The team recruited a transfer-portal class, including Zuby Ejiofor, Mitchell, Bryce Hopkins, and Oziyah Sellers, who are all out of NCAA eligibility. Despite the loss, head coach Rick Pitino remains proud of the Red Storm's efforts. The season was low point of low point for the team, with 13 consecutive victories, including an 81-72 win over No. 3 U.Conn.
