Gary leaders say education is priority at mayor’s UNCF breakfast

Gary Mayor Eddie Melton, a product of the Gary Community School Corp., hosted the 2026 United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Mayor’s Breakfast at the Gary Career Center. The event featured speakers including Shelice Tolbert, lawyer and partner for Tolbert and Tolbert. UNCF awards over $62 million in scholarships each year and provides financial support to 37 historically Black colleges and universities. Melton urged attendees to continue investing in education and support Gary schools.
