The New York Mets lost 5-2 to the Yankees in the Subway Series, the first of six Subway Series games and first of three in Flushing. Clay Holmes, considered one of the best pitchers in the National League, had his worst start of the season in the game. The Yankees scored four runs off Holmes over four innings, marking the first team all season to score more than two against him. Cam Schlittler, who has an ERA of 6-1 and is second only to Shohei Ohtani's in the majors, was the best in the league. The Mets managed only two hits off him, with A.J. Ewing and Carson Benge contributing to the team's poor performance.
