Dylan Lopez Contreras, the first known New York City student detained by federal immigration authorities under President Trump, has been released after nearly a year in custody. Lopez, who fled persecution in Venezuela, was arrested at a routine immigration hearing without a lawyer and transferred to a facility in Pennsylvania where he was held for 10 months. His release was hailed by his mother and public as a relief and a blessing. His attorney, Kate Fetrow, stated that "nothing can undo the injustice" of denying him due process and depriving him of valuable time, education, and experiences.
