Paramount Pictures is set to present its upcoming slate to movie theater owners at CinemaCon in Las Vegas amid concerns about its pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The acquisition, valued at $111 billion, has been controversial due to concerns about the implications of the exhibition business. Several filmmakers, including Denis Villeneuve and J.J. Abrams, have signed an open letter opposing the merger, while James Cameron, who co-directed Paramount’s upcoming concert film “Billie Eilish,” supports the deal. The deal is pending a shareholder vote and government regulatory approval. Paramount executives argue that merging with Warner will allow it to compete with larger rivals in the streaming space and bring larger content libraries for its customers. The Justice Department still needs to review the merger.
