An Izard County Deputy has been deemed justified by the Sixteenth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Drew Smith for his use of deadly force in an incident that occurred on April 18, 2026. The incident occurred after a report of a person making threats while armed with a knife and a hammer. An officer disused his service weapon after an ineffective taser was used, resulting in the death of 35-year-old David Douglas.
