North Dakota ranks second highest in the nation for healthcare deserts

North Dakota has been ranked second in the nation for healthcare deserts, with over 200,000 of its residents having to travel over 19 miles to their nearest facility. The $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program allows states to apply for funding for five years. The state has been authorized for $199 million for the first year and plans to distribute around 37 grants totalling $270,000. The funding is intended to rebuild and retain a rural workforce, restore health and reduce costs, and increase efficiency with modern technology and data.
