Danielle Baughman, a shelter administrator for Animal Protectors in Pennsylvania, hosted an event where dogs at the shelter could choose their owners rather than the actual owners. The event was held in February 2026 and participants sat in a circle to "choose" their potential new owners. While most of the dogs were adopted, one dog from the event has yet to find his forever home. Baughm posted a video of the event on social media showing a test run with the dogs, giving users a glimpse into what the event would entail and building a fundraiser around the event. Despite the event's success, the shelter plans to host another adoption event with Pets for Patriots, a non-profit that connects veterans with dogs.
