Newton Aycliffe teenager seriously injured in Shildon railway accident

A teenage girl is in a life-threatening condition following an accident on a railway line in Shildon, County Durham, at around 08:00 BST. The incident is not being treated as suspicious by the British Transport Police (BTP). The accident occurred at the same time as the Great North Air Ambulance arrived and airlifted the teenager to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The school where the accident occurred confirmed that one of its pupils was involved in the incident.
