Curry Barker, a 25-year-old writer-director, won the prize despite not having yet released his first theatrical release yet. Critics have been critical of Antoine Fuqua's Michael Jackson biopic about a singer who molested young boys despite admitting to molesting young boys. The film is set to earn at least $80 million for a record-opening weekend for a music biopic.
