The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has been replaced by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other members of the panel, which advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on which vaccines Americans should receive and at what ages are also embedded in state laws. These decisions could impact policies such as vaccine requirements for school attendance and health care workers, as well as insurance coverage. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore stated that his vaccine policy will be led by science, not internet conspiracy theories, before signing the Vax Act, which shifts the responsibility from the Advisory Committee to Maryland’s health secretary to set recommendations for vaccines. Other blue states, including California, Colorado and Maine, have also taken similar steps. The changes are unlikely to have much of an effect until Kennedy and his Department of Health and Human Services decide how to proceed with the panel's future is in limbo. A top State Department official denied reports that a multibillion-dollar award for global health commodities, such as medicine for infectious diseases, will be abruptly shut down.
