Two drivers from Houston, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and Audi RS6 Avant, were caught street racing outside of Houston, Texas. Harris County Constable Precinct 4 deputies stopped the two cars on the highway near the 24500 block of Northwest Freeway. The cars involved were not exactly grocery-getters, with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 and a 4.0-liter sleeper-wagon. Between them, there was somewhere north of 1,300 combined horsepower. In Texas, street racing is generally charged as a Class B misdemeanor, which carries a fine of up to $2,000 and a potential jail sentence of over six months. However, if the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or there is an open container in the vehicle, the charge can rise to a Class A misdemeanor, resulting in higher fines and time behind bars. The incident was seen as a reminder that raw horsepower is only useful if you actually use it.
