Ramp, a $32 billion US spend management platform, has acquired Stockholm and London fintech firm Billhop, a licensed payments provider licensed to operate across the European Economic Area and the UK. The acquisition aligns with the acquisition of Ramp, which plans to begin onboard European and British businesses directly this summer. The move comes as Capital One announced its $5.15 billion acquisition of rival Brex, which is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026. This acquisition comes as Ramp's move into Europe comes as Brex is being acquired by a traditional bank, while Ramp's long-time rival, Capital One, is set to compete with the larger market. As part of the acquisition, Ramp will open its first international offices in London and Stockholm. The company currently serves nearly half of its customers with some form of international payment capability, supports transactions in over 180 countries, offers local currency cards in Canada, Australia, Japan, Mexico, and Singapore, but all of these customers are US-headquartered businesses.
