Public approval for President Donald Trump has dropped significantly over the first year of his second term, with only 36% of Americans approving his job performance a year later. However, the majority of Republicans still approve of Trump, despite promises made by him to end the Ukraine War and reduce inflation. These voters have held certain issues that they no longer hold, such as free trade, where about half of Republicans believe that tariffs will help the country, while another third believe the effects could be positive or negative. Richard Davis, a retired political science professor from Brigham Young University, argues that a cultist party can lead to policymaking being less broad-minded and more restrictive. He urges Republicans to reject aspects of Trump's policies that contradict their principles and reject his attempts to circumvent the rule of law.
