State lawmakers have appointed a new committee to examine the condition of general aviation airports across Texas, specifically in relation to runway maintenance or lighting changes. The committee will examine the conditions and capacity of these airports, evaluate barriers for carriers to expand regional air service, study shortages in the aviation workforce, and study governance and procurement frameworks for these airports. The help could include additional funding from a state aviation infrastructure fund. Instead of focusing on commercial airports, the committee will focus on smaller airports, often used for flight schools, agriculture, and private business travel.
