Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is not operating an autonomous vehicle service, according to the California Consumer Policy, Transportation, and Enforcement (CPUC) regulator Pat Tsen, who confirmed that the company holds the same permit by the Department of Motor Vehicles as limousine operators. Tsen also stated that Tesla was classified as an SAE Level 3 autonomous vehicle, meaning it was exempt from reporting any data to the CPUC. This comes as Tesla prepares to launch its Cybercab, which will retail for $30,000 and feature neither pedals nor a steering wheel. The company also reported 5 additional crashes in Austin in January, bringing total reported incidents from mid-2025 to 14.
