Prediction markets create new leak temptations for NFL draft

The NFL has identified prediction markets as particularly susceptible to insider abuse following multiple high-profile trades predicting the onset of U.S. military action in Iran and Venezuela. Former NFL general manager Tom Telesco, who led the Chargers' front office from 2013 to '23, estimates that between 20 to 30 people could have known who the Chargers would pick would likely be 24 hours before draft day. The NFL has asked prediction markets, such as Kalshi and Polymarket, to cease trading on outcomes that can be determined in advance or easily manipulated. The sites have declined to make changes. The league has been monitoring betting patterns closely and has previously disciplined players for any gambling-related incidents.
