Why a Man Was Arrested After Renting a VHS Copy of 'the Worst Movie Ever'

North Carolina man, James Meyers Jr., was arrested in March 2016 for not returning a VHS copy of the 2001 Tom Green comedy Freddy Got Fingered, once described as "the worst movie ever released by a major studio in Hollywood history". Meyers was processed at the Concord Police Department and charged with "failure to return hired property" after renting the movie from a video store 14 years ago. The store had been closed for about 10 years and Meyers found the arrest humiliating. The news of the arrest spread to Australia where Green was on a stand-up comedy tour and he offered to help alleviate the stress.
