Collins, Sullivan break with Senate GOP leaders on amendment to reverse SNAP cuts

Senate Republicans defeated an amendment sponsored by Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) to create a reserve fund to reduce grocery costs and reverse cuts made to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Two vulnerable Republican senators, Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Dan Sullivan (r-Alaska), voted in support of the amendment. The amendment would have modified the Senate budget resolution and would not have had the force of law.
