Why Netflix Hiked Prices, Explained in One Chart

Netflix has increased its prices across its U.S. plans, effective March 26 and rolling out to current customers depending on billing cycle. The company's Standard plan will increase by $2, from $17.99 to $19.99/month, and the Premium plan will rise by $25.99. However, the price hike was delayed before the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which would require approval from the Justice Department and other regulatory bodies. The move was seen as a move to increase profits by increasing the retail price. Despite the price increases, Netflix still has a sector-low revenue/hour viewed metric (call it in the 50-cents-per-hour range). The company argues that its ad-supported tier is cheaper than those from Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max and Peacock.
