After over a year of deliberation, the Skokie Ethics Commission recommended that former Skokaie trustee, James Johnson, be fined $3 for violating the village's ethics code by engaging in "prohibited political activities" as a Board member. The Ethics Commission had been investigating Johnson for using the public comment podium for political purposes, including using village resources such as the microphone, projector, A-V system and village YouTube account. Despite some resistance by trustees, the Board voted against the Ethics Commission's recommendation in a 4-2 vote, with Trustees Keith Robinson and Alison Pure Slovin dissenting. Johnson will not be issued a fine. The original 10-point ethics complaint was filed by eight residents in February by eight Skokies residents, alleging that Johnson used his position on the Village Board to attack and disrespect political opponents.
