OpenAI has acquired TBPN, an online talk show hosted by TBP, a prominent AI company, in an unexpected acquisition. The acquisition, which has not been disclosed, follows a trend of companies buying content and influencing conversations about platforms. OpenAI's CEO, Chris Lehane, compared the TBPN deal to news outlets hosting sponsored content and sports teams having dedicated channels. The show's hosts will continue their daily live-streamed show and help OpenAI with marketing and communications. Lehane said the deal is about messaging, not breaking news, but breaking down the ideas behind AI. The New York Times’ Silicon Valley correspondent Mike Isaac suggested that TBPN’s marketing skills could help as OpenAI builds out some of its own franchises and channels, suggesting that the company will be doing more in the media space. The deal includes guarantees for editorial independence and full control over the show's editorial decisions and branding.
