John Oliver, host of "Last Week Tonight" and "Last Sunday," expressed outrage over the use of undercover cops and government agents in controversial sting operations, highlighting some of the tactics used by the Bureau of Investigation (ATF) agents, including setting up a fake smoke shop in Portland and paying a mentally disabled man and his friend a large tattoo of the fake shop's emblem, which depicted a giant squid smoking a joint. Oliver called this "utterly despicable" and criticised a judge for suggesting it was not a good idea. He also noted that some operations disproportionately target certain ethnic groups and people with learning disabilities.
