North Carolina astronaut Christina Koch, the first woman to travel to the moon in over 50 years, is set to be the first female astronaut to do so. She is part of the crew aboard the Artemis II, which is scheduled to arrive off the coast of San Diego early Friday evening. Koch, who also participated in the first all-female spacewalk and previously broke records by spending 328 days aboard the International Space Station from 2019 to 2020, is one of the four astronauts on board the Orion spacecraft. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Koch was selected as one of eight members of the 21st NASA astronaut class and completed Astronaut Candidate training in 2015. She and her husband's rescue dog, Sadie Lou, are currently mission specialist on board their Orion spacecraft, assisting with tasks such as checking the spacecraft's life support, navigation and communication systems.
