The Golden State Valkyries lost two international players, Carla Leite and María Conde, in the WNBA expansion draft. Leite will join the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo, while Conde joins due to an injury. Despite the losses, Golden State did not lose many of its key rotation players from last season. Former Valkyry president of basketball operations, Vanja Černivec, is now overseeing the Fire's roster, which also includes ex-Valkyrie Chloe Bibby. The Fire selected a group of players with high defensive upside. Golden State also retained several key players, including All-Star Kayla Thornton, stretch center Iliana Rupert, and sharpshooter Cecilia Zandalasini.
