Silfab Solar, a controversial solar plant in Fort Mill, South Carolina, will temporarily idle production due to "temporary constraints" affecting production. The temporary pause in production will begin on Aug. 5 and end by Aug. 11, the same week that school resumes for nearby students. The company has been dealing with a lawsuit over zoning, which has been upheld by the York County Board of Zoning Appeals, stating that the Fort Mill facility should not be allowed to operate in a district zoned for light industrial operations. Silfab Solar has long faced opposition due to its proximity to schools and concerns about potential chemical presence and leaks close to children. Two reported chemical leaks at Silfab’s plant earlier this year prompted an evacuation and closure of an elementary school.
