Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been transferred to unpaid non-disciplinary leave as they await trial for an alleged pitch-rigging scheme. This follows an agreement between Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association. The pitchers, who have pleaded not guilty to multiple conspiracy charges, are accused of receiving money to throw pitches for balls intentionally to benefit gamblers. Prior to this, they were on paid non-disciplinary leave. The move comes in light of the evidence presented in the case against them. The allegations led to MLB requesting restrictions on betting markets involving individual pitches and asking for a cap on $200.
