Delta Airlines has temporarily suspended "specialty services" for members of Congress due to the ongoing partial shutdown of the federal government. The airline's services include airport escorts and red coat services. Other major airlines, including American Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest Airlines, have not commented on this issue. Delta CEO Ed Bastian stated that the airline's primary priority is customer and customer safety. The suspension of these services has led to significant staffing shortages and lengthy wait times for some travelers. The partial shutdown has resulted in tens of thousands of TSA workers receiving no pay if it continues to drag on. Republican Iowa Rep. Ashley Hinson introduced a bill that would require Congress to undergo the same TSA screening procedures as all other airline passengers and prohibit the use of federal funds to provide access to airport security.
