Minnesota lawmakers are considering additional state restrictions on artificial intelligence, with some of these measures receiving bipartisan support. The Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee heard bills on the recreational use of chatbots for minors, which would go further and create a civil cause of action for damages from chatbot use. The bill is supported by Sen. Erin Maye Quade and Sen. Eric Lucero, who argue that consumer-facing AI is a five-alarm fire for society and could have devastating consequences for both humans and their constitutional rights. Another bill, which also supports Mayequade's bill, is also gaining traction, which has been unanimously approved by the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee.
